Fitting a 10hp outboard to your tender can transform a functional boat into a pocket rocket. In this video we try out six of the best
For many small boat owners, a 10hp outboard represents the sweet spot – fast enough to get onto the plane, but still just about light enough to be portable.
In this video we head to Hamble Point Marina and fit six of the best 10hp outboards on the market to the transom of our little Orange Marine 2.9M inflatable.
With its slatted aluminium floor and inflatable keel, this lightweight tender can have RIB-like performance, given the right outboard combination.

Our contenders include market stalwarts such as Honda, Suzuki, Tohatsu, Yamaha and Mariner.
We also throw a wildcard into the mix, in the form of the Lehr 10hp outboard, which runs off propane gas.
Each engine was judged on its ease of use, refinement, build quality and performance to help us choose an overall winner.
For full prices, performance figures and noise levels, read our 10hp outboard engine group test report in the February edition of Motor Boat & Yachting, which is out on January 7.
