Video: Sealine SC38 | Used Boat Review

The Sealine SC38 is a great boat – the only thing wrong with it was the Sealine SC35…

“When the SC35 came out, it completely killed the Sealine SC38 that had launched nine months earlier.” I’m with Sealine guru Richard Allen at his RPA Boat Sales office. He’s my go-to guy for anything Sealine related, having sold them for many years, initially for Sealine Sales, then Peters and finally on brokerage through his own business.

Richard puts some numbers on his hypothesis. “The SC35 was half a metre shorter, just two inches narrower and offered almost everything the SC38 did, yet it cost nearly £45,000 less. That’s  a lot of money for a separate shower cubicle, the one obvious material difference between the two boats.

“By September 2010, three years after it launched, we’d sold over 200 SC35s. The SC38, with a nine-month head start, had sold about 80 units.”

All of which, while absolutely true, is also absolutely irrelevant on the secondhand market where any difference in the new list price has long since eroded. The SC38 has now pretty much reached price parity with the SC35 and makes an intriguing alternative to its ubiquitous stablemate.
