MBY’s former publishing director John Crookshank died on Monday 1 May, aged 73.
Widely known throughout the European boating world, he started as advertisement manager in the 1960s and went on to become publishing director of MBY and Yachting World magazine until 1991.
A keen sailor, he completed the Fastnet Race three times and was Commodore of Emsworth Sailing Club in 2004/2005.
Former MBY editor Alex McMullen said: “John was a flamboyant and immensely likable character. He was fantastically successful too – just look at the 400-page boat show issues of the time.”
David King, managing director of Princess Yachts, said: “John developed a magazine that not only represented the industry well but also encouraged its growth, as it continues to do today. He made a major contribution.”
John leaves Diana, his wife of 31 years, two children and four stepchildren.
