Olympic athletes open PSP Southampton Boat Show 2012
Ben Ainslie among the heroes to open the summer boat show
Held every September in Mayflower Marina, the Southampton Boat Show is the largest event of its kind in the UK, regularly attracting more than 100,000 visitors.
Key attractions include world premieres from some of the biggest names in the boating industry, celebrity appearances and the 100ft ferris wheel (pictured above), which provides panoramic views of the show.
There is a wide range of boats on display ranging from canoes and jetskis to 80ft superyachts and sailing catamarans.
Dating back to 1968, the format of the show has evolved gradually into its current ten-day format. The opening day is press preview day and if you want to avoid the busiest crowds then it’s best to avoid the weekends.
The show is organised by British Marine Boat Shows, a subsidiary of the British Marine industry body, which also runs the London Boat Show.
Tickets for the 2015 event, which runs from 11-20 September, are priced at £15 per adult and £13 for seniors. Children aged 15 and under go free. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more and disabled visitors.
