The Solent Spear wasn’t the first boat designed to recreate some of that Fairey magic. David Skellon of Fairways Marine, builders of the solid Fisher range of motorsailers through the ’70s and ’80s, had a very similar ambition in mind when he created the Supermarine Swordfish in
1989. “I wanted to create an Aston Martin of the sea”, David enthused.
“I wanted a boat that was powerful, fast, of extremely high quality, capable of handling some proper weather, and wrapped up in a drop-dead gorgeous package. A modern Swordsman and a true motorboat”.
