Youngsters aim to become round-Britain RIB record holders

The teenagers are waiting for a weather window to launch their attempt

A team of teenagers will be watching the weather intently over the next week or two looking for an appropriate window in which to launch their bid to become the youngest people ever to circumnavigate the British Isles and Ireland.

Archy Ward and Harry Edwards, both 17, and Jack Haigh, 18, will board their 9-metre Ribcraft powered by twin Evinrude E-TEC 250hp outboards from the Isle of Wight sometime in early July and make an attempt on the record to raise money for the charity Sail 4 Cancer.

The three boys have more than 20 years of powerboating experience between them. Outside their school studies, Archie and Harry have part-time jobs as safety boat officers, while Jack is a boatman at Sea View Yacht Club.

Sailing and events manager of Sail 4 Cancer, Emma Huddert, said: “Sail 4 Cancer is incredibly proud to have the support of three such adventurous individuals. Their bid to raise money for the charity in the run up to such a challenging record attempt shows determination. I wish the boys the best luck and look forward to seeing them complete their adventure.”
