113-year-old pier to be renovated in 18-month plan
A 113-year-old pier, in Mumbles, Swansea, will be renovated
and will include a boathouse at the end to house a Tamar class lifeboat.
Due the awkward positioning of the pier, boats will be used
to help build the boathouse during the 18-month project, which includes a
hotel, apartments and a retail development.
Howard Richings, head of estates management for the RNLI,
said, “The Mumbles is an iconic lifeboat station. The delicate nature of the
historic pier means that the materials and construction plant will be brought
in by sea to a jack-up barge that will provide craneage for the piling and
building work.”
