Every lock displaying strong stream warnings; EA urges boaters to stay off the river
The Environment Agency is urging boaters to stay off the Thames after several days of heavy rainfall and melting snow combined to cause a strong stream.
Every single Thames lock is currently displaying red boards, which indicate a fast flow. All weirs are open, and in places the Thames has burst its banks.
An update from the agency this morning said the strong stream warnings would likely stay in place into next week as the meltwater and rain continue to flow down the river.
Four flood warnings are also in place for the Thames region, with 41 less-severe flood watches also reported.
