Championship planned for this year
Thousands of motor racing fans visiting the Wales RallyGB service park in Swansea last month had the chance to see the Viper ‘Rally on Water’ concept for the first time.
The 14ft Viper jet boat with its 175hp Mercury power plant was launched in the UK four years ago.
Visitors to the Swansea stand could watch a series of races as a demonstration of the boat’s accelerlation and manoevrability.
A Viper spokesman says: “We have plans for 2008 to showcase the event and build up a championship, and introduce 200hp to the craft to replace the 175hp power plant.
“We feel the greatest advantage we have over traditional powerboat racing is the cost – the fact that our competing boats run individually against the clock allows friends to get together, share the cost of the boat and all compete.”
Vipers plans to run a championship fuelled by 100% bio-ethanol from 2009.
