The appeals by crews of Qatar 96 and Spirit of Norway have been upheld by the UIM Appeal Board.
The appeals by the crews of Qatar 96 and Spirit of Norway against the disqualification of Qatar 96 from the sixth and seventh rounds of the 2005 Class 1 World Powerboat Championship in Dubai have been upheld by the UIM Appeal Board.
The Appeal Board’s decision reverses the action taken by Ali Bin Ghulaitha, Officer Of the Day (OOD) for rounds six and seven, who issued an amended set of results based on the outcome of a post championship dyno test on one of Qatar 96‘s Mercury engines. The disqualification of Qatar 96 is therefore overturned and with their points reinstated the team moves back to third overall in the championship standings. Victory 77 moves back to second with Spirit of Norway‘s Bard Eker and Steve Curtis confirmed as the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Champions.
An official statement on the ruling by the UIM will be issued later.
