Racers Mohammed Al Mehairi and Jean-Marc Sanchez from the Dubai Victory Team were involved in a high-speed crash
Two powerboat racers were tragically killed today in Dubai following a high-speed crash during the early stages of the Class 1 Dubai Grand Prix.
Driver Mohammed Al Mehairi of the United Arab Emirates and throttleman Jean-Marc Sanchez of France were racing for the Dubai Victory Team.
Gulf News reported that their boat, Victory 1, flipped and landed upside down after they lost control.
“Safety personnel attended to both pilots at the scene. They were subsequently airlifted to a local hospital, where all efforts to resuscitate them were in vain,” a statement from race organisers said.
As a mark of respect, tomorrow’s race has been called off, as have all event activities.
