Get afloat over the break
Devon companies are staging a Try a Boat weekend in Brixham Marina this Bank Holiday.
Try a Boat runs on 23, 24 and 25 May, operating from the Events Pontoon in Brixham Marina.
It’s free of charge, with the aim of introducing people to boating by offering trips on a range of vessels.
There is a Bavaria and a Colvic to try for motorboaters.
The event has been running for three years, last year seeing 350 people taking to the water, many for the first time.
George Turpin, Principal of organisers Plain Sailing, says: “With so much doom and gloom in the news, this initiative is a real breath of fresh air, allowing people to get out on the water and ‘have a go’ on, or even just take a look round the boat of their choice.”
Visitors will be able to meet the all female Atlantic Rowing Challenge team, complete with a Woodvale Challenge ocean rowing boat on display. Having competed in the 2007 race the team are available to answer any questions about ocean rowing and racing, their terrifying mid-Atlantic capsize and spending 11 weeks at sea on a tiny boat.
