Team Sunseeker fully prepared for Italian Grand Prix

Sunseeker Sales Group's team raring to go

Sunseeker Sales Group’s powerboat team, Team Sunseeker, head to their second race in the P1 World Offshore Championship series this weekend hoping to claim the podium position in the SuperSport Class category.

The Powerboat P1 Italian Grand Prix of the Sea will place in the Bay of Naples where Team Sunseeker will face 19 other international teams. Following severe sea conditions at the opening race of the series in Malta earlier in May, Team Sunseeker secured fifth place in the SuperSport Class. Sea conditions outside Valletta Harbour were considered too dangerous the following day, forcing organisers to cancel the second race.

Team Sunseeker driver, Andy Wilby, says:
“The first race in Malta was extremely tough, but we have a solid boat which got us through the high swells. We put in a lot of hard work during, as well as leading up to, the event and to achieve fifth place was exceptional. We showed good potential and we’re looking forward to racing this weekend.”

On returning to the UK from Malta, race boat, Sunseeker Challenger, with its new twin 5.9 litre Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT) NEF 400 turbo diesel engines underwent fine tuning and is now fully prepared for Naples.

Dominic Byrne, managing director at Sunseeker Sales Group, says:
“High swells shook up the first race testing competitor skill to the maximum. Although this was a slightly frustrating start for Team Sunseeker, we were impressed at Andy and Gavin’s sheer determination and bravery to complete the race. The boat performed superbly and our race result bodes well for Naples.”
