Husband and wife team benefit from leaders missing marker buoys
TweetTeam Purple (pictured) driven Stuart and Sara Cureton took their sixth win of the season in P1 SuperStock’s 150hp class in the Cowes-Poole-Cowes on Sunday.
Rose Lores aboard Eclipse alongside young newcomer Lucci Levi, granddaughter of powerboating legend Sir Max Aitken, looked set for the overall class prize before a missed marker buoy in the closing stages cost them dearly.
They were in a close fight for first with Team Fox, who also missed the buoy. The mistake earned both teams a time penalty, pushing Team Purple up the leaderboard to first.
The husband and wife crew are now 29 points clear at the top of the 150hp standings.
Round four of the 2011 P1 SuperStock series was certainly a major test for all 150hp teams as well as those in the larger P1 250 Panther class, with rough conditions making it tough going.
Although disappointed to lose out on what was initially a sensational victory, Lores and Levi delivered a fantastic performance nonetheless.
“It was amazing, we had Fox on our tail the whole time,” said the 17-year-old Levi. “I would definitely like to continue doing this!”
Darren Hook and David John Harwood took the P1 250 Panther class prize, the new Peters & May crew benefitting after points-leading Pertemps suffered in the rough weather.
“Through the first two buoys it was rough but the rest was fine,” said Hook. “It’s our first time in this boat and we haven’t had much time in it so we’re pleased.”
