Two of Britain’s best-loved tall ships may be sold abroad. Grand Turk, a replica 18th century frigate, and the three-masted trading schooner Kathleen & May have both attracted interest from possible buyers in the Caribbean.
Grand Turk was built in 1997 as a replica of the British 6th-rate frigate Blanford, and has appeared in several films and in television’s Hornblower series. Kathleen & May, listed on the National Historic Ships Committee’s Core Collection, was built in Wales in 1900 and is the last surviving example of a west coast trading schooner.
An online petition to the Government has been launched in an attempt to keep the 107-year-old Kathleen & May in the UK.
