It has been announced that plans to include a lake-based race at the Swiss resort of Concise on the calendar of the 2005 UIM Powerboat P1 World Championship have been put on hold until next year. The calendar now reverts back to a six Grand Prix format, and at the request of Gallipoli, the Mediterranean Grand Prix will now switch to the vacant September date.
The full calendar is now as follows:
6-8 May MALTA, Grand Harbour Valletta
10-12 June ITALY, Anzio
1-3 July GERMANY, Travemunde
26-28 Aug GREAT BRITAIN, Cowes
9-11 Sept ITALY, Gallipoli
30 Sep-2 Oct SPAIN, Marbella
“We have made this decision for the benefit of the teams and all interested parties in Switzerland”, said Nathan Knight, CEO, KBL Powerboat Management Ltd.”
“During the close season almost every competing team in the Championship has invested significantly in the development of their craft. Whilst this reflects strongly on the growing stature of Powerboat P1 and the quality of competition, some smaller teams have expressed concern relating to the financial implications of a seventh race. It is important that to ensure a steady growth of our class that we move forward as one.”
“Our negotiations in Switzerland have progressed well and there is a momentum building and agreements in place that provide great optimism that this particular event will proceed. However, there is still some way to go in the complex discussions with sponsors and the authorities and, in considering the overall picture, we have decided to make this early announcement for clarity. We remain very excited by the prospect of racing on Lac Neuchatel and an event at Concise is most definitely part of our 2006 plans.”
The next round of the 2005 UIM Powerboat P1 World Championship, the Grand Prix of Italy, takes place in Anzio on the 10th-12th June.
