The Dutch builder behind Stevens steel motorboats cites "difficult trading conditions" as reason for bankruptcy
Smelne Yachts, the Dutch builder of steel motorboats that is known as Stevens in the UK, has filed for bankruptcy.
The builder, which makes boats from 31ft to 50ft, is represented in the UK by Boat Showrooms. In a statement it said that “due to the difficult trading conditions being experienced by our market sector the number of new boat sales has been severely reduced”.
All 37 of the company’s staff have been laid off.
Smelne’s director, Martin Selles, said that he is interested in hearing from investors interested in restructuring the company.
