Spirit of Qatar 96 comes in first ahead of Team Abu Dhabi
Britain’s Steve Curtis and his co-driver Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani drove Spirit of Qatar 96 to victory in the opening race of the Pearl Qatar Grand Prix.
The result ended a nine-year wait for Sheikh Hassan to break his jinx of not winning on home waters since taking his first podium in Doha back 2004.
Teammates Ali Al Neama and Matteo Nicolini in Spirit of Qatar 95 also made a podium finish, coming in third behindf Team Abu Dhabi’s Rashed Al Tayer and Majed Al Mansoori.
Victory Team, the defending world champions, finished fourth. Final points will be accrued after the second round of the two-race event on Saturday.
