Jersey's main visitors' marina plans to allocate more berths to locals as part of a scheme to upgrade harbour facilities
More berths within St Helier Marina in Jersey will be allocated to local boats as part of a scheme to upgrade harbour facilities. Pontoons will be moved to allow for an estimated 57 extra berths, which will be reserved for Jersey boats.
In addition a new berthing area will be created for visiting boats just outside the marina gates.
The St Helier Boat Owners Association (SHBOA) has expressed concern at the plans but a statement on its website says that it has received assurances that no annual berthholders will be moved from the marina on a permanent basis.
Work is due to start early next year and the majority of the berths should be available by the start of next season.
