MBM reader Paul Churchley making final preparations before setting off on epic trip over the weekend
MBM reader Paul Churchley is just days away from starting his epic solo circumnavigation of Britain.
Paul, 48, hopes to set off in his Jeanneau Merry Fisher 625 on Saturday, but is prepared to push back the departure day to Sunday or Monday, depending on the weather.
The computer engineer from Saltash is undertaking the solo voyage to raise money for the RNLI’s ‘Train one, save many’ campaign, and is still looking for sponsorship .
With just days to go, Paul told MBM: “Final preparations are going very well indeed. The boat is now fully equipped, antifouled, polished and waxed and almost completely packed. I originally thought I would not have enough space to store everything I needed to take but it looks like I may have space to spare!
“The plan for the rest of this week is to finish packing tomorrow and then to do a ‘trial’ run with everything exactly as it will be on Saturday. This will probably be a trip to Falmouth or Fowey depending on weather with an overnight stop to try everything out? now the real fun begins.”
