Highland Council has moved quickly to allay concern that the Isle of Skye is to be renamed. It says that the new Gaelic name of Eilean a’ Cheò (‘misty isle’) only applies to the new Electoral Division No 11, one of the wards created as the result of the move to Proportional Representation in today’s Highland Council elections.
Eilean a’ Cheò is simply the name for the electoral ward of Skye and Raasay. The council says there is no intention to change signage or literature, and the island will continue to be referred to as Skye.
