Sicily Grand Prix of the Sea to be screened live on Eurosport

First live TV broadcast since Cowes-Torquay-Cowes in 1971

Powerboat P1 Management Ltd has announced a new broadcast agreement with leading pan-European sports network, Eurosport, which will see the Grand Prix of the Sea in Sicily televised live in September.
Powerboat P1 Chief Operating Officer, Robert Wicks, welcomed the agreement as a new dawn for the series and the sport. He said: “Securing the first live broadcast of a powerboating world championship event since 1971 is a coup.

“Eurosport is a major force in sports broadcasting and over the past two years we have developed the series to the point where it has recognised its untapped potential and are now excited about taking Powerboat P1 to new audiences.

“The broadcaster’s commitment to a live broadcast is a great endorsement of all the work we have put in to enhancing our coverage and the racing spectacle in recent years.”

Eurosport will also screen eight 26-minute programmes covering the world championship, and six 26-minute programmes showcasing the newly branded SuperStock (ex-Honda Formula 4-Stroke) Championship. As part of a landmark two-year broadcasting deal, Eurosport will further upgrade its coverage with two live events during the 2011 season in addition to an extended highlights package.

The partnership agreement also includes an enhanced online presence on Eurosport.com, while race results and tables will be featured on Eurosport’s 24-hour news channel, Eurosport News.
