Powerboat village is open now for unique chance to see all racers out of the water
A ‘powerboat village’ is currently running in London’s Wood Wharf in the heart of the Docklands ahead of Saturday’s start of the Venture Cup Prologue powerboat race.
The venue is open till 11pm tonight and from midday to 11pm tomorrow (Friday). There are bars, food stands and all boats competing in the race will be on the hard standing.
On Saturday, craft will be lowered into the water for the kick-off of one of the world’s longest endurance races, with teams heading down the Thames before opening the throttles off Southend.
The fleet will then hug the coast all the way to the Solent before a dash across the Channel to Guernsey. After a rest day, on June 10 boats will race around Guernsey with a stop in St Cast, France.
Then, on June 11, boats will leave Guernsey to cross the Channel to Torquay where they’ll turn east for the finish off Poole and a glitzy reception at Poole Quay Boat Haven.
For your chance to see these big-diesel monsters, head down to Wood Wharf for the unique opportunity to see all boats out of the water at the same time.
