Under the banner 'Sea's the future', World Maritime Day marked shipping's contribution to society.
Boats from the Royal Navy, RNLI, and Sea Cadet Corps gathered on the Thames on 27 September to celebrate World Maritime Day. Under the banner ‘Sea’s the future’, the day marked shipping’s contribution to society and its vital role in world trade and development.
Leading shipping industry and associated international organisations promoted the latest technological developments. Visitors, including young people from local schools, got a chance to drive ship simulators and gain a unique insight into the transportation of goods by sea.
The event, hosted by the Honourable Company of Master Mariners aboard their historic ship Wellington, was organised in partnership with the International Maritime Pilots Association and the International Maritime Organization.
