Thuraya P1 crew leap into the water with seconds to spare
Former tennis star Adriano Panatta and his crew on this P1 boat had a close shave when their engine caught fire.
Panatta, who won the French Open in 1976, along the way becoming the only player ever to have beaten Björn Borg at the tournament, had to leap into the water when flames more than 6ft high erupted from the Lamborghini engine, on the P1 boat Thuraya.
The terrifying incident took place during a warm-up for a race in Gallipoli, Italy. No one was injured but the three crew were taken to hospital for check-ups.
Driver Claudia Castellani commented dead pan: “We are not expecting to race this weekend.”
