NYPD sergeant told to open underwater hatch
A New York police boat sank when its sergeant opened an underwater hatch.
According to the Huffington Post, the officer opened the hatch at the instruction of a civilian safety inspector.
The boat, which is used to patrol the area around JFK airport, reportedly sank within 30 minutes and the 10 officers on board had to swim some 250m to shore.
The police sergeant is expected to face disciplinary action. It is not known what happened to the safety inspector.
