Chichester based RBS Marine announces a new partnership to become UK agent for Kingfisher Powercats
RBS Marine has announced that it will be selling Kingfisher Powercats in the UK.
The Birdham based business has a long established Rodman Sports Fisher and Rodman Muse luxury cruiser dealership and has introduced the Kingfisher brand as a complimentary entry level and commercial proposition.
Built by PDL Fabrications in Portsmouth, the range comprises of a Minicat series from 3.7m (12ft 1in) to 5.1m (16ft 7in) and a Powercat series spanning 6.2m (20ft 3in) – 15m (49ft 2in). Aluminium construction not only provides strength, it also makes build modification easier than a GRP boat which requires dedicated moulds.
Most of the range is outboard powered, with RBS Marine choosing Suzuki motors, although other engine manufacturer options are available. Unusually, the smaller boats are fitted with a single engine fitted between the hulls.
Designer Kim Bertelsen says: “We’ve done plenty of experimenting with the tunnels and the characteristics of the hulls and deadrise. We’ve also come up with a good way to help direct water flow over the propeller and avoid cavitation”. The 620 and 670 Powercats are powered by twin outboards, with the Kingfisher 10m fitted with a pair of inboard diesel motors.
Ben Stevens, managing director of RBS Marine, told MBY: “We’ve been looking for a great quality entry level boat for some time, and we’ve been seriously impressed by the design of Kingfisher Catamarans and workmanship by PDL Fabrications.
“We pride ourselves on our reputation for quality and strength of build that we have gained through our long-standing relationship with Rodman, and it was essential for us that any new brand supported this ethos completely.”
Prices start at under £10,000 including engine for the Minicat range, whilst a Kingfisher 670 with twin 100hp outboard motors and a typical specification will retail for less than £55,000 including VAT.
RBS Marine will bring the Minicat 450, Powercat 670 and 10m Catamaran to next month’s Southampton Boat Show.
