Queen Elizabeth 2, Cunard’s flagship for over 30 years, will make her final UK call on November 11. The 70,000-tonne liner will arrive in Southampton at 7am and spend most of the day at her berth in the Eastern Docks.
She is due to slip at 7.15pm but, after turning, will hold position off Mayflower Park for a firework display commemorating her departure. She will sail at 8pm, bound for Dubai and a new career as a floating hotel, retail and entertainment centre at the Palm Jumeirah resort development.
Dubai Port World said the ship will be refurbished to recreate her original interior décor and fittings. According to the liner’s crew, however, her red funnel will be sliced off and placed on the waterfront as an entrance to the ship and will be replaced by a funnel-shaped smoked glass penthouse.
