American Jay Price sets the pace at the top of the championship leaderboard
Qatar Team’s Jay Price dominated the Portuguese round of the F1 H2O World Championship at Portimao over the weekend.
Following a collision in the final round between the earlier pole position winner, Marit Stromoy, and American Shaun Torrente, Qatar Team’s second driver, Italian Alex Carella, shot ahead before Price managed to squeeze past to head the fleet for the remainder of the race.
The final result extends Qatar Team’s overall points lead in the series.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the way my team put the package together,” said Price. “The restart after the collision was key and we had to be patient at the beginning and just bide for time.
“Now with two straight victories we won’t give up and continue to put pressure on the rest as we ready ourselves for the Russian GP in July.”
Price now heads the standings with 40 points, 10 points ahead of his young teammate Alex Carella, with Philippe Chiappe filling third slot on 21 points.
