PWC riders boost charity

PWC fundraisers have raised over £13,500 for the Variety Club of Great Britain

A fleet of 80 PWC (personal watercraft) riders paid a minimum of £100 each to take part in a 100km (60-mile) cruise from Beach Rock near Sea Palling, to Great Yarmouth in the south, then north to Cromer and back to Beach Rock, in aid of charity. The £13,500 raised will be handed over to the Variety Club of Great Britain today on the Yamaha (D30) a Motor (UK) Ltd stand.

Although Yamaha organised the event, there was a huge array of craft making the trip. One of the Yamaha WaveRunner riders, Graham Hicks, is both blind and deaf but still managed to complete the course despite his disability. On arrival at the southern end of the course, the Mayor of Great Yarmouth presented Hicks with a cheque for £500, donated by local businesses, for the Variety Club of Great Britain, in recognition of his feat.

All the entrants and machines were scrutinised for safety beforehand to ensure the event went off without a hitch.
