Next month’s P1 Powerboat Grand Prix at Gosport will feature a headline performance from rapper Professor Green, organisers have announced
The organisers of the P1 Powerboat Grand Prix are hoping to lure the crowds to Gosport by combining high-speed boat racing with rap music.
Professor Green has been announced as the headline act for next month’s Gosport Grand Prix of the Sea, which will take place in Stokes Bay over the weekend of July 11-12.
The rapper, who’s real name is Stephen Paul Manderson, has sold more than 500,000 albums and had a number one hit with Read All About It (Feat. Emeli Sandé) in 2011.
Professor Green will be supported by DJ Santero and the music will begin at 1700 on Saturday July 11, after the first day of powerboat racing comes to an end. Tickets to the concert are priced at £18 per person.
Mark Hook, leader of Gosport Borough Council, told local newspaper The News that he was “delighted that they have got a headline act who is well-known”.
The Gosport leg of the P1 Powerboat Grand Prix of the Sea is expected to attract 30,000 boating fans to the South Coast town, with ten Panther-class powerboats racing at speeds of up to 70mph.
Further Grand Prix stages scheduled for this summer include Hull (August 8-9), Cardiff (August 30-31) and the season finale at Bournemouth (September 12-13).
