Symbolic Formula 1 event to honour drivers gets new date
The powerboating Formula 1 Race of Champions set for for Abu Dhabi in December has been postponed to the start of the 2011 campaign.
The main fixture, the 19th Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi, leading up to the seventh round of the 2010 UIM World Formula 1 Championship now has a new date due to a combination of last-minute logistical problems combined with the UAE’s celebration of its National Day on December 2.
“We are excited about staging this special one-off celebration of honouring drivers who have helped grow this sport over the years and keen to ensure it has the attention it deserves,” said series promoter Nicolo di San Germano.
The race format will have drivers representing individual countries competing in identical boats and engines to those chosen for next year’s Nations Cup series.
