Curtis to race in Spirit of Qatar as it enters opening round of American offshore series
British powerboating legend Steve Curtis will team up with Qatar’s Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani for the opening round of the OPA Offshore Racing Series in Ocean City, Maryland this weekend.
The sheikh and Curtis will be driving their Spirit of Qatar 96 hull (pictured) in the Supercat category.
The twin-hulled racer is powered by a pair of Skema V12 engines modified to bring the former Class 1 race hull in line with American OPA race regulations.
Although the team will miss a later round of the series due to the clash of dates with the holy month of Ramadan, Sheikh Hassan says he is confident they will win the Supercat title regardless.
