Recent deal with Italian broadcaster widens appeal
Powerboat P1 has announced a new broadcast partnership with the biggest television company in Italy, RAI. It plans to deliver the P1 World Championship series to more than ten million homes.
The agreement will see highlights of the 2009 season, which begins with the Malta Grand Prix of the Sea in May, screened on sports TV channel Rai Sport Piu. In addition to coverage of the ten Championship rounds, season preview and review programmes will also be shown.
Powerboat P1 Chairman and CEO, Asif Rangoonwala said:
“We are delighted to have agreed this partnership with Italy’s state broadcaster. The appeal of our exciting and glamorous motor sport championship continues to gather momentum, and over the past few years we have seen a period of sustained growth in both the worldwide TV audience figures and the number of dedicated P1 broadcasts. With many Italian teams taking part in the World Championship, increased visibility from this coverage will provide a welcome boost for their sponsors and commercial partners.”
This year’s P1 calendar sees the mono-hull, offshore series breaking new ground by visiting Scandinavia and Asia for the first time with races in Gothenburg and Istanbul.
