Land reclaim well underway
Work has started in Portland to build the new marina.
Planning permission was granted for the Dorset site in June and land reclamation has started, to increase the area to 2.2 acres. A massive 200,000 tonnes of local Portland stone is being placed in the harbour to form an inner sea wall (in addition to the harbour’s own wall).
The Dean and Reddyhoff, 560-berth marina will be in the same area as the venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games sailing events.
It will be the largest single marina constructed in the UK since Dean & Reddyhoff’s first marina at Haslar in 1993.
Due to open in late 2008, the marina will have a restaurant and bar, 24-hour security with CCTV and electronic pontoon gates and car park barriers.
