29,500-tonne Armorique will operate between France and Poole until 7 March
Poole Harbour has welcomed the largest ever vessel to grace its waters.
Brittany Ferries’ 29,500-tonne cruise ferry Armorique arrived from Cherbourg to begin a temporary period of operations between France and the Dorset port.
Despite its size – Armorique is 168.3m long and 26.8m wide – it is a very manoeuvrable vessel, with bow thrusters and a stern thrusters.
“It is all very high tech,” said Brian Murphy, Poole’s harbourmaster, who in his capacity as a pilot brought the ship into harbour. “It was no problem at all.”
Armorique is scheduled to operate out of Poole until 7 March.
