The Port of London Authority is to carry out its biggest dredging operation for 40 years. Work on the £1.5 million project to deepen the Princes Channel will start during the first week in December.
The operation will see the removal of nearly 1.5 million tonnes of sand as the channel is deepened from 6m to 8m. Work will last approximately eight weeks and, when completed, will allow up to 2,000 ships a year to ‘cut the corner’ when approaching the Thames from the south.
