A national petition is calling for the government to “urgently review” the decision to close eight coastguard centres.
The government announced its amended proposals in July, after its previous proposals, which called for the current provision of 18 coastguard centres to be reduced to just eight, with only two operating a 24-hour service, were widely slammed by MPs and coastguards.
