Historic boats, cars, helicopters and more
There is fast-paced action on land and water and in the air at the inaugural Cholmondeley Pageant of Power.
The event runs this weekend from August 9-10 at Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire, featuring
Organiser James Hall says: “The North of England has never seen anything like this.
“It’s not just all about the cars and bikes – extraordinary though those are – or even the racing boats and helicopters.
“It’s about the combination of the action, the power bit if you like, with the beautiful grounds at Cholmondeley alongside the bars, shops and restaurants that we have set up for everyone to enjoy.”
The event is sponsored by Bentley and features 120 historic or significant sports and racing cars and motorcycles, powerboats racing on the 25 acre mere and one of the UK’s largest ever collections of helicopters – at present more than 50 flying in.
A new course has been laid through the grounds which is expected to be particularly testing for entrants which include Derek Bell, a five times Le Mans winner, in 2003 winning Bentley Speed 8.
World championship standard boat racing will take place on the mere.
A traditional tavern near the start line known as the Pageant Bar will sell high quality local produce and fresh fish and seafood alongside a wide range of beers and wines.
Other wine and champagne bars are scattered throughout the event.
A tented shopping village offers the ability to buy anything from an historic carburettor to a piece of local cheese.
“While the emphasis is on the cars, boats and planes we wanted to make sure everyone can have a great time,” explains James.
“If people want to bring picnics along and just sit in the sunshine watching the action that would be lovely.
“However, if they want to get within touching distance of the competitors and their machines they will find a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
“These guys love their machinery and are happy to talk to anyone who shares their enthusiasm.”
Entrance to the event is priced £30 per adult, per day if purchased on the day at the gate.
