2009 event looks to raise £20,000
If you’re stuck for a cruising destination this weekend then make your way to Brighton for Paddle Round the Pier.
This year’s event will look to raise over £20,000 for charity from Saturday 4th to Sunday 5th of July.
This time around the money raised will go to three charities: the RNLI, SurfAid International and local charity, The Rockinghorse Appeal.
As well as the original Paddle Round the Pier, the on water action will include events such as Paddle Something Unusual and the Outrigger Canoe Race.
For those less inclined to hit the water there is plenty to see onterra firma, like the VW Beach Buggy display and a performance from the Urban Athletics Parkour Crew.
There will also be a performance by renowned rocking cover band, Let’s Zep.
Paddle director Dave Samuel says: “The event is free for visitors, but we are asking people to donate on entry or to the volunteers who will be walking around the event with collecting buckets.
“If every person donates £1 then all of the charities are going to benefit hugely.
“All of the participants in the various water-based activities will be raising sponsorship and they’ll be entered into a huge prize raffle too.”
