Glamorous race series starts in Malta on May 5
The 2007 UIM Powerboat P1 World Championship will start in Malta over the weekend of May 5-6 and end in Portimão, Portugal, during the last weekend of September. Three new venues feature in the 2007 programme which will comprise 12 races contested over 6 Grand Prix events.
Each venue has a strong marine heritage, proven expertise in hosting major sporting occasions and the resources, infrastructure and drive to deliver a world class racing event.
The calendar, which has been enthusiastically welcomed by the teams, underlines the P1 strategy to secure long-term relationships with host cities. This is integral to its credibility as a major motorsport property whilst also ensuring that each Grand Prix weekend can be planned, developed and marketed to its full potential. In 2006 more than 300,000 people attended a P1 event.
The venue for the Spanish Grand Prix is still to be announced. Detailed negotiations are currently progressing with two cities and an announcement is expected before the end of January.
