Olympic Torch carried on RNLI lifeboat

RNLI Beaumaris was used to ferry Elen Evans and the Olympic Flame

The Olympic Torch joined the RNLI lifeboat at Beaumaris Lifeboat station today where it made its way on the Atlantic 85 Inshore lifeboat, Annettte Mary Liddington.

The trip took the flame from Beaumaris to Porthaethwy whilst being escorted by the station’s fleet of lifeboats.

As well as being involved in the transport of the flame across the Menai Strait, the area that separates Anglesey from mainland Wales, the crew and lifeguards will accompany the torch later in the tour.

Andy Grey, volunteer lifeboat operations manager at Little and Broad Haven lifeboat station, was nominated for his work by members of the community and will be running with the Olympic Torch through Harverfordwest as the tour continues through Pembrokeshire.

Phillip Greville, Beaumaris RNLI lifeboat operations manager, said, “It’s a great privilege for Beaumaris RNLI lifeboat station to be part of such a historic event.”
