New high speed electric launch

Patterson Boatworks reveal electric launch

Patterson Boatworks have revealed their hand built, electric launch, due for release at ExCel 2009.

The FE23 is a classic slipper design but propulsion comes from a 23kW electric motor, meaning 1 hour of drive at 15 knots and 8 hours of drive at 7 knots.

Intended mainly for river and lake use the boat has an 80 mile range on one charge and the 144 volt battery is guaranteed for up to 3000 charges.

The boat itself is hand built in Cumbria with the hull being constructed of foam-cored carbon composites and the topsides are a mix of Douglas fir, English oak and aluminum.

Simon and Hamish Patterson head up the team at the company, Simon says: “This launch is a joy to drive and ride in. Our quest for the perfect electric power source has really paid off, and the overall design of the FE23 accommodates all the needs of her owner, who lives on the waterfront and expects to use her a good deal.
