MBY columnist and top-notch trainer reveals how to go about it
MBY writer Jon Mendez has published a book with the RYA encouraging beginners into powerboating.
The launch of the book was held at the Southampton Boat Show on Friday 15 September, with powerboater Shelley Jory and other well-known names from the world of powerboating giving it their backing.
RYA Start Powerboating is aimed at those new to the sport, covering the basics, such as the boat and equipment needed, through to heavy weather techniques and night navigation for the more advanced.
The book is designed to accompany the RYA National Powerboat Scheme Level 1: Introduction to Powerboating, and Level 2: The National Powerboat Certificate. The book also acts as the official course book for both levels.
Jon, who apart from being an RYA Yachtmaster, Instructor Examiner and owner of his own sea school Mendez Marine, co-authors MBY’s regular Boathandling series, says: “RYA Start Powerboating is packed full of information that every newcomer to powerboating needs to know about.
“However, by using lots of colourful illustrations and straight forward talking, the book covers all of these different areas logically.”
Available now, Start Powerboating (G48) costs £8.99 and is available to order from the RYA website: www.rya.org.uk/shop or phone 0845 3450372.
