The body of a deckhand from Roman Abramovich's megayacht has been found in Auckland
A crewmember from Roman Abramovich’s megayacht Le Grand Blue has been found dead in New Zealand.
Wayne Lee, a Papua New Guinean deckhand on the 108m boat, was last seen leaving a massage parlour in Auckland on 16 January.
His body was found five days later after it was forced to the surface of Auckland’s Princess Wharf by the propellers of a cruise ship.
Lee was reported missing on 17 January as Le Grand Blue sailed from Auckland to an unknown destination.
Abramovich was not thought to be on board at the time, but it is not clear what the yacht was doing in Auckland without its owner.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious but investigators are baffled as to how a sailor who travelled the world’s oceans came to fall off a wharf, almost within site of the ship.
