MBY Allam Marine comes out on top after recording fastest lap of the weekend
A raceboat sponsored by Motor Boat & Yachting tops the championship rankings after winning the Powerboat P1 SuperStock season opener in Hull on the weekend.
The boat, MBY Allam Marine, was tied with the Pertemps team after two races, but edged their rivals into second place after recording the fastest lap of the weekend.
The team is made up of Americans Andy Biddle and Tracy Blumenstein, who quickly acclimatised to the tricky local conditions on the Humber Estuary.
Andy said: “In the first race we attempted to drive like the Brits but didn’t feel comfortable with this and reverting to our own style on the second day paid dividends.”
Of all the powerboat racing classes, Powerboat P1 SuperStock is one of the most exciting and challenging, since all teams get the same boat and engine, meaning victory is down to driving skill and strategy alone.
The courses are tight and inshore, with boats racing around buoys in front of big crowds. Teams have to race up to three times a weekend to secure the points needed to challenge for the title.
The action moves to Daytona Beach in the US for the next race on June 15, before returning to the UK for a race weekend in Plymouth on June 29.
