Paul Churchley has today crossed to Scotland from Northern Ireland
MBM reader Paul Churchley is almost a third of the way round Britain in his Merry Fisher 625.
Paul is undertaking the mammoth solo circumnavigation to raise money for the RNLI’s ‘Train one, save many’ campaign.
He’s also using the trip as a way to promote the RNLI-designed MOB Guardian system, which is a satellite-tracking safety system used on fishing boats.
Paul is due in Oban, Scotland later today after crossing from Glenarm in Northern Ireland.
So far his 21ft boat has performed admirably in some challenging conditions.
“The boat has performed well in sea conditions that you would expect to be beyond a boat of this type and size and although I still wouldn’t be happy going to sea voluntarily in much more than a slight to moderate, it is great to know that should conditions turn out worse than expected or forecast I have a boat that handles well under those conditions,” Paul said.
