A man has died and three others were rescued after their RIB crashed into Calve Island, near Mull

A man has died and three others were rescued after the RIB they were on crashed into Calve Island, near Mull.

The men, who were divers had left Tobermory and were heading towards Lochaline last night when their 21ft RIB collided with Calve Island in the dark and ran aground.

Tobermory RNLI launched its lifeboat at 11.45pm and rescued the four men, one of whom was unconscious, suffering from serious head injuries. The lifeboat crew administered first aid and once ashore the men were transferred to an ambulance. Shortly afterwards one of the party was declared dead.

According to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency all the men were wearing dry suits but none of them were wearing lifejackets.

Police are currently investigating the incident.
