Malta's last three Government-controlled marinas are to be privatised
Government-controlled marinas in Malta are to be privatised. Malta Maritime Authority will relinquish control of its last three marinas, at Msida, Ta’Xbiex and Gozo, although its role as a regulator will be strengthened.
The three marinas will be offered as separate parcels, and new operators will be free to set their own berthing and marina fees. However boat owners are being reassured that the Office of Fair Competition has the power to ensure that no party abuses its position.
The Maltese Government has also indicated that it will look into the possibility of building more marinas on the island.
