Selio and Carella dominate second round of Formula 1 championship
Sami Selio and his Mad Croc team partnerAlex Carella finished a magnificent first and second in second round of this year’s Formula 1 Championship in St Petersburg over the weekend, leaving all rivals trailing in their wake.
Weather conditions were superb but bright sun and flying spray made driving difficult in the early stages.
However it didn’t appear to deter Selio and Carella. Even the usually aggressive defending champion, American Jay Price, couldn’t get within striking distance.
Italian Francesco Cantando made an early exit after barrel-rolling on the far side of the circuit but the delay was brief and once the green flag appeared Selio and Carella again took up their leading role.
The new ruling making Formula 1 teams use standard EFI boxes paid dividends as breakdowns were unusually few.
Fabio Comparato pushed hard in fourth place after Cantando’s exit but made little impression on the leaders and he later departed in similar fashion to Cantando on the 39th lap.
Both Abu Dhabi drivers Al Qamzi and Al Hameli challenged for a top six place but Al Hameli was struck down with an engine failure less than a minute before the race ended while Al Qamzi finally finished fourth.
